9/23/2004: Music and an Invitation...

Hi kiddies-

Yet another weekend is almost on top of us.. Run for
your lives! It will crush us all! Well, maybe with
musical options anyway. As usual there is so much
going on this weekend that I have no idea what to
do... lil' help?

On the subject of things I DO know I am doing would be
a little birthday gig for Mister Showy next week. I
know I know, he's kind of sketchy but... he is
actually turning 25 (snicker snicker) in just a week
(Thursday the 30th). Sounds like an excuse for a party
to me! Here are the details. I would ABSOLUTELY love
it if you all could come. You're certainly invited and
there are two events:

Pre-show wine party in Cole Valley around 6-10ish.
Kate and Renais are hosting the inagural meeting of
S.W.I.G. (Sophisticated Winos Inebriation Group) at
Kate's lovely place at 868 Schrader (@ Frederick).
There will be tasty cake and wine all around!

Hamsa Lila @ the Independent is where we'll end up.
The show promises to be incredible. I've seen this
band only once and they completely blew my mind. It's
a rare and special event that I hope you can make it
to. See details on the cost and the band at the bottom
of this email...

Top Four Flights & Radioactive @ Boom Boom Room $5
One of the best beatboxers around (Radioactive of
Spearhead) will be dropping some serious skills with
local afrobeat band Top Four Flights. Should be a hell
of a 5 buck show.

|||||| FRIDAY 9/24 ||||||

Karl Denson's Tiny Universe @ Fillmore $25
I'll say it again, there is no one like Karl D. He is
the master of new-school funky saxamaphone. He is
always amazing, will never disappoint, and promises to
blow the roof off the Fillmo'.

Tea Leaf Green @ Independent $15
Our favorite SF jam band is hitting the Independent on
Friday
. I'll bet they go all-out in the big room. Four
Year Bender opens.

Signal Path @ Boom Boom Room $10
These 5 cats do live electronica (drum & bass, house,
downtempo, rare groove) with skills from their jazz
backgrounds. They're supposed to put on a fun,
dance-happy show. http://www.signalpath.org/index.php

From 11-5ish there will be 20 bluegrass string bands

Om Trio @ 12 Galaxies $10
These road-happy guys are swinging through town with
their trippy blend of rock, electronica, and acid

|||||| TUESDAY 9/28 ||||||

Shotgun Wedding Symphony @ Bruno's $6
One of Jazz Mafia's most unique sounds is this
12-piece hip-hop/jazz outfit complete with string
players. It's pretty much unlike anything you've seen,
and with $2 Stella Artois how can you go wrong?

Will Blades (organ, guitar, drums) @ Boom Boom Room $4

|||||| THURSDAY 9/30 ||||||

Awww shit... It's a birthday McShow!
Hamsa Lila @ Independent $15
Come on over for the pre-show wino party in Cole
Valley and then come out and dance yer ass off! I'm
gonna be 25, suckers... make me feel like 80 the next
morning. Hamsa Lila is an incredible band that is a
unique blend of West African drumming, funky flutes
and horns, stunning male and female vocals, and lush
harmonies. They really create an entire world of
energy on stage that is unlike anything else. Garrin
Benfield opens with a CD release gig. Winos at 6, show
maybe around 10 or so. See you then!

Hmmm, was that birthday plug self-promotion? Here at
McShow Productions, we strive very hard to keep to a
non-commercial, grassroots format. We hope you the
listener will appreciate this fact in making for a
more pure musical experience. Okay, well only
non-commercial if it doesn't involve drumming up more
free drinks for me...
