8/25/2005: McShow is here with musical cheer.

Hellooooooo strangers!

Sorry 'bout the little hiatus last week. I flew across
the country to get a sunburn. The mission was quite
successful.

I hope some of you checked the UPCOMING list from the
previous McShow and discovered all the crazy music
that seems to always descend on our city whenever I
leave it. Anyone catch Skerik at the Yankee? Dakah Hip
Hop at Stern Grove? Robert Walter? How was it?

Anyhoo this weekend presents a plethora of options.
Sound lunatics Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey are in town
tonight, Particle is rocking out tomorrow night, as is
Jimbo Trout with some great free bluegrass, and Dark
Hollow plays a rare free daytime gig in Berkeley on
Sunday.

It's never disappointing to come home to San
Francisco.

Oh yeah, one last thing: SAVE THIS DATE! FRIDAY
OCTOBER 7th. You're all invited to a very Showy
birthday. I'll hit you with an Evite for details. It's
gonna rock. Stay tuned...

|||||| THURSDAY 8/25 ||||||

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey | Bernard/Blades/Amendola @
Café du Nord $10
Experimental is about the only way to describe Jacob
Fred. Rarely holding a consistent groove, these guys
are all about pushing the sonic boundaries of jazz as
far as they will go. People tend to hate them or think
they’re brilliant. I’m in the second category. Three
of the city’s funkiest jazz players open up.

Mission Players @ 12 Galaxies $8
Tasty funky soul jazz is on tap tonight at 12
Galaxies. I have yet to see these cats but the stuff
I’ve heard has an excellent old school groove. The Get
Down opens up.

hell of a place to see these guys.

Particle | Gabby La La @ Great American Music Hall $19
One of the most hard-charging high-energy livetronica
acts you’ll ever see, Particle is a damn good time.
Combining influences of funk, jazz, electronica, and
straight-up rock these guys will make you groove and
groove hard. The sonic lunacy of multi-instrumentalist
Gabby La La will be unleashed as an opener.

Carlos Washington & Preservation Collective @ Boom
Boom Room $5
I LOVE five buck shows! Carlos is a crazy funky
trumpet player formerly of Karl Denson’s band. That
gives you an idea of how good he is. His band (drums,
keys, bass) keeps it soulful and jazzy in the style of
old school groove music.
