7/14/2004: Lengthy McShow... A new moniker perhaps?

Happy Wednesday, music lovers!

I hope the middle of this week finds you all happy,
healthy, and itchin' for a little live music. Hmmm,
but what to see... and where? Who the hell has the
time to keep up with this stuff anyway? Well me
apparently. Here's the lowdown for your getdown:

WEDNESDAY:

THURSDAY:

FRIDAY 7|16:

~Aphrodesia @ Elbo Room: $5~
Even though I hear tons of great buzz, I still have
yet to see this band. Hard to argue with funky
afro-beat music for just 5 bucks though. Lemme know if
you're down for a dancin' good time.

~Transcendental Hayride @ the Independent: $10~
This up-and-coming jamband has been touring nationally
and are playing the Indy with the Yardsale and Front
Porch. They should be tearin' it up back in their
hometown. http://www.transcendentalhayride.com/

~Topaz & the Left Coast Allstars @ Boom Boom Room:
$15~
What a killer lineup! Hence the steep cover... Topaz
is a damn funky sax player and he's bringing members
of Robert Walter's band (sax whiz Cheme Gastalum),
Karl Denson's band (bass & drums), Netwerk Electric
(guitar), and Garaj Mahal (B3 organ). Sounds HOT to
me!

SATURDAY 7|17:

~Delta Nove @ Bruno's: $10~
This band was a huge surprise for me at High Sierra-
they're incredible! They soulfully blend funk, samba,
jazz, afrobeat, and rock into a tasty mix of danceable
sound. I wanna go! http://www.dnove.com/

~Topaz & the Left Coast Allstars @ Boom Boom Room:
$15~
HOT HOT HOT, see above.

~Dubcat @ the Independent: $12
Members of Long Beach Dub Allstars and Hepcat make up
this groovin' funky ska dub rock band. Haven't seen
'em, but with a lineup that spawned Sublime it should
be lots of fun. http://www.dubcat.com

SUNDAY 7|18:

~Youssuo N’Dour and The Super Etoile de Dakar West
African Highlife Band @ STERN GROVE: FREE!~
Yeah! More afrobeat music! Bring it on, I say. It's
hard to find something more fun to dance to than funky
highlife. I have yet to spend an afternoon in Stern
Grove this year and this might be the best show of the
summer in their lineup... http://www.youssou.com/

TUESDAY 7|20:

~Hot Buttered Rum String Band @ the Sweetwater in Mill
Valley: $10
The boys will be rolling through Mill Valley with
their High Altitude Bluegrass sounds. I really like
this band. If you're down for a heel-kickin' Tuesday
night
let me know. http://www.hotbutteredrum.net

~Realistic @ Bruno's: $7~
Realistic is the 6-piece live drum n'bass arm of the
Jazz Mafia and they are just rippin'. Tuesday night is
the Mafia residency at Bruno's and as a sweet bonus
Stella Artois is just 2 buckos!

TUESDAY 7|20:

~String Cheese Incident @ the Warfield: $30
I'm goin' the second night, see below.

WEDNESDAY 7|21:

~String Cheese Incident @ the Warfield: $30
I'm going for sure! It's worth it, trust me. I missed
them last time they came through town and it bummed me
out. I'm not making that mistake again. The 'Cheese is
at the top of their game in the jammy bluegrass rock
world. It should be an awesome show.

~Gomez @ the Fillmore: $25~
I keep hearing that this band is great, but I still
don't know what their deal is. Anyone want to clue me
in?

One last note: the Guardian just did a really cool
article on our friends the hard workin' Jazz Mafia. I
was lucky enough to do a logo design for their band
Realistic Orchestra and for Jazz Mafia itself. I'll
post the latter in my next email to get some feedback
from ya'll but in the meantime check out one of their
shows soon and check out the article here:
