Sooooooo sorry this is out so late!

What can I say? I was at a show when I should have
been writing this.

Super quick- House of Shields happy tonight, Steve
Kimock at tiny 12 Galaxies afterwards, Tour de Fat in
Golden Gate park OR North Beach Jazz Fest on Saturday,
New Libation Orchestra (cats from Galactic) at Boom
Boom on Saturday, and North Beach Jazz alllllll damn
day on Sunday.

Thanks what you need to do. And guess what? Most of it
is FREE!

Cyclomatic Trio Happy Hour @ House of Shields $FREE
Funky drummer Adam Willis and some Swoop Unit and
Urban Quintet players always make a good time happy
happy hour. I'll be there, you should too.

Steve Kimock & Guests @ 12 Galaxies $25
Steve has been a giant in the jam world for many
years. “Jerry Garcia’s favorite guitarist” regularly
packs the Fillmore when he rolls through town. Tonight
in a rare intimate setting, he’ll be rocking with John
Molo (drums, Phil & Friends) and the amazing Reed
Mathis (bass, Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey), and God knows
what other crazy guests. This should be a very special
event, I’ll be squeezed in down front somewhere…

New Libation Orchestra @ Boom Boom Room $15
Friday & Saturday shows. Galactic’s guitarist and sax
player (Jeff Raines & Ben Ellman) are no strangers to
the funk. They’re heading up this deep-groovin’
all-star band along with Wil Blades (organ), Kevin
O’Day (drums), Chris Arenas (bass), and DJ Quickie
Mart. It’ll be some tasty New Orleans flavor funk, and
it’ll kick ass for sure.

Afrofunk Festival @ Elbo Room $12
Friday & Saturday shows, varied players. Sila & the
Afrofunk Experience, Henri Pierre Koubaka, and DJ
Jeremiah with the Afrofunk Sisters make the lineup
tonight at the Elbo. It’s all about Afrobeat which
means the air will be filled with infectious
percussive rhythms and smokin’ horns.

Tribute to Chet Helms @ Great American Music Hall $50

If by some miracle you can get a ticket for this, it
will be a classic rock wet dream. This tribute to the
legendary man before Bill Graham features Big Brother
& the Holding Company, Bob Weir, Mickey Hart, Merl
Saunders, Country Joe McDonald, Bobby Vega, T Bone
Burnett, Flying Other Brothers, David Nelson, Terry
Haggerty, Leigh Stephens, Joli Valenti, and MC Wavy
Gravy. The ticket price gets you 10 posters and the
proceeds go to benefit Chet’s family.

North Beach Jazz Festival @ Washington Square $FREE

Yeah! ‘Latin in the Park’ is the theme for the
Saturday lineup at NB Jazz this year. Always a blast,
the party starts with Damon Aaron followed by Joyo
Velarde, Josh Jones Latin Jazz Ensemble, B-Side
Players, Rhythm Room All Stars, and is closed with
Pucho & his Latin Soul Brothers. I’m only missing this
because I’ll be at Tour de Fat. There’s no WAY I’m
missing Sunday too!

I’ll be working all day at this celebration of bikes,
bands, and beer (these are a few of my fav-o-rite

Ensemble, REBIRTH Brass Band, and wrapping up with
Rhythm Room All Stars. Sweeeeeeeet.
