Enjoying your week, ladies and germs?
Well whether you are or not, you can always count on
looking forward to kick-ass music. Why the hell else
would you pay to live in this crazy city? Not for the
views or the neighborhood character or the proximity
to nature or the whacky people or the mild weather or
any of that crap. No way, it's the music baby. The
mu-sick!
And once again we find a ridiculous lineup at the Boom
Boom Room this weekend. My personal hero Fred Wesley
(James Brown's original trombone blower) will be there
with a team of legends ready to funk up that little
stage. I'm planning on catching it Friday night and I
must insist you consider going too. A wise man once
said: Ignore it at your unfunky peril...
|||||| THURSDAY 2/24 ||||||

Polyphonic Spree @ Bimbo’s 365 $18
I have no idea how to describe these guys, probably
because I have yet to see them and have yet to hear a
cohesive description. All I can say is that I have it
from reliable sources that this band is a religious
experience that must be seen to be understood. Check
out the website and see what the hell you can make of
them…

drums and bass and this week's special guest on the
saxamaphone.
Clark/Jackson/Wesley/McNeal/Wolff @ Boom Boom Room $20
Another all-star funky extravaganza goes down at the
Boom Boom Room! This one has my personal hero Fred
Wesley who may just be the funkiest trombone player
there ever was (original James Brown horn). He teams
it up with the rhythm section from Herbie Hancock’s
Headhunters, Heiroglyphics sax player McNeal, and
Cannonball Adderly’s keyboardist Wolff. These cats are
all soul-jazz legends. They’ll be tearing the place
down brick by brick. I’ll be catching the Friday show,
so you should too!

Hertz/Vega/Levy @ Connecticut Yankee $10
Drum, bass, and keyboard masters all three, this
should be a hot little Yankee show. These guys are
founding members of KVHW, Sly & the Family Stone, and
Fareed Haque Group to name just a few of their funk
and acid jazz talents. Saturday show too.
