Well hello there strangers!
You're looking nice, did you lose weight?
I know you've all been holding your collective breath
waiting for your musical mind to be McShowified. There
IS news from the sonic front, and it is... keep
waiting. (D'OH!) Just a bit longer. Next week will be
a full version of the venerable Showy McShow email
babble-y-boo, and it won't disappoint I promise.
In the meantime, a teaser. There are a few things this
weekend that should be pretty darn stellar show-wise
that I felt compelled to tell you about. I'll be brief
on the listing 'cause hey it's Friday, and we've all
got drinkin' to do!

Grupo Fantasma @ Mojito (North Beach) $10
Join me tonight for the all-too-infrequent return of
my favorite funky band from Austin, TX. These guys
will spill the groove all over ya, I mean you'll be
covered in the stuff. They bring the party with some
seriously nasty Latin flavored salsa-funk. Think
SambaDa-meets-Vinyl but in my opinion much better than
either band. Infectious rhythms, blasting horns, rock
on out! When was the last time you saw a great band in
North Beach anyway?

Everyone Orchestra | Steve Kimock @ Potrero del Sol
Park (25th & Potrero) $FREE
6pm–9pm show. This should be a rockin' evening of
jam-happy outdoor tunes. It's a benefit for Next Arts
and they're asking for donations of new socks and
underwear of all things (odd, I don't know about you
but I say who wears underwear anymore..?) The Everyone
Orchestra struck me as really getting their shit
together at High Sierra this year. They're a big ol'
jam band that changes their cast of great musicians
constantly, and this weekend they have one of the
biggest names in the jam guitar world joining them in
Steve Kimock. I'll see you on the grass (that works on
so many levels).
Particle @ the Fillmore $25
Celebrating a DVD/Live CD release is one of the most
fun boogie-disco-livetronica-jam acts on this here
planet, Particle. With new members and new energy the
word on the street is these guys are on a tear lately.
Rock down to electric avenue Saturday night.

Brian Coogan's NoLa Confection @ Boom Boom Room $12
A big funky night of 'Nawlins-flavored Hammond Organ
jazz funk awaits you at the Boom Boom. This
tasty-sweet band (led by Brian on the B-3) pulls
together some of the heros of SF funk: Adam Theis,
Will Bernard, Joe Cohen, and Brandon Etzler. Hot hot
hot.

Swoop Unit @ Beach Chalet back garden (Ocean Beach)
$FREE
More great funky free music! Hell yeah! This funk SF
soul-jazz band features our man Adam Willis slammin'
them skins. I'll be there as long as the fog stays
away... They're on from 3–6, ride your bike for extra
super happy bonus Showy points!

Taarka @ Hotel Utah $7
Sweet new-school rootsy string-jazz music is the soul
of Taarka, and catching them in an intimate venue for
less than 10 bucks is the icing on the cake. Wind down
the weekend with some beautifully layered string
sounds.
