8/18/2008: Duo for You-oh

I had a feeling that the Outside Lands Festival that's happening this weekend in Golden Gate Park would bring us some rockin' ancillary gigs.

A glance at the listings reveals one hell of a great one (that I almost missed!) The incredible Benevento/Russo Duo will be gracing us with Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday night shows at intimate Mojito in North Beach. I'll be there Tuesday, join me if you can! Buy your ticket NOW.

Benevento/Russo Duo @ Mojito - $12
Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday shows. One drummer, one organ player, one HELL of a huge sound. I've been hooked on these guys for years, and they just keep getting better and better. Their music varies from explosive experimental jazz to stuff that almost has an instrumental Radiohead or Postal Service feel. Regardless of what they're playing it's done with telepathic improvisation and incredible power and skill. Russo smashes away at his drum kit like a jazz-savvy version of John Bonham, and Benevento's virtuosity on the keys is fierce enough to sell out Yoshi's on a weeknight. If you were at High Sierra, you saw these two play as half of Bustle in Your Hedgerow in addition to their own set and sit-ins with almost every other band up there. This will be captivating stuff, and you're outta your mind if you miss it.
