11/26/2008: Pass the Peas, Jive Turkey.

Ever happen to notice that your sporadically-disseminated Showy McShow email has an 'Upcoming' section down at the bottom of it? No? Well, it's not a bad thing to glance at once in a while, 'cause it usually lists stuff that I might not scrap up the time to write you about. Case in point was last week, when I didn't send anything at all about Bela Fleck and the Flecktones, Medeski, Martin, and Wood, and the Drive-By Truckers. Last week was kinda nuts, musically speaking.

See what you could miss if you don't skim that Upcoming part? Just a lil' public service announcement, because I care about you. Really, I do.

Speaking of announcements, there is some spectacular music this weekend that you need to know about. Bustle in Your Hedgerow is here...

Benevento/Russo Duo @ the Independent - $18
Part indie rock, part freaky jazz, all power, and all virtuoso, all the time. That's what organ and drums duo Benevento Russo are all about. As always, they'll destroy the room and take a bit of your mind with them for good measure.

Delta Nove @ Mojito - $8
No strangers to the Showy pages, Delta Nove always brings the party BIG time. They're a hard groovin' Afro-Latin funk band that just crackles with dance-happy energy and great musicianship. This is some serious bang for your musical buck.

Monophonics @ Boom Boom Room - $15
A local band on the up-and-coming train, the Monophonics are a straight-up jazz/funk outfit that manages to break the mold with young players and high energy authenticity. They did a rockin' set of soul-flavored funk at High Sierra this year that had everyone dancin' their asses off.

Bustle in Your Hedgerow | Guitarmageddon @ the Independent - $18
Bustle is AWESOME. Just GO. It's Benevento and Russo, teamed up with stellar guitarist Scott Metzger of Rana and Dave Dreiwitz, bassist from Ween, to create the most badass instrumental recreation of Led Zeppelin you could possibly imagine. If you like Zeppelin (and I'm not quite sure why you're getting this email if you don't), you will be completely floored. It's uncanny the power these guys have, and it's exactly what Led Zeppelin was all about. Guitarmageddon with Josh Clark of Tea Leaf Green starts the rockin'.

Supertaster w/ Karyn Paige & Joe Bagale @ Mojito - $8
With the multi-instrumentalist badasses of the Jazz Mafia holdin' down the grooves and soulful vocals, this'll be a hot night in North Beach. Expect special guest troublemakers throughout the evening too.
